It is bisected by the Penfeld river. The town is known for its rich maritime history and naval base. At the mouth of the Penfeld, overlooking the harbor, is the Mus\u00e9e National de la Marine, housed in Brest&#8217;s medieval ch\u00e2teau. On the other side of the river is <strong>the Tour Tanguy<\/strong>, a medieval tower.
